Yeah its Vegas!!!
City of Las Vegas is simply known as Vegas or Sin city. Las Vegas Strip needs no introduction. One should simply experience this strip and catch the vibe. It’s definitely the place to see and be seen. Splendor, grandeur and picturesque view of this city is hopping and fun with whole lot of different experience. We had a whale of time in Las Vegas and enjoyed the glitz and glamor of the Strip.
We made it there by Christmas weekend. Couldn’t find a more fitting way to end my year. It was pretty long drive(12 – 13 hrs.) covering 560 miles. We stayed at Mirage which is great location on the strip and close to a lot of things. Our vacation was three day trip covering the most part of strip with few shows.
The strip is approximately 4.2 miles in length and primarily for gambling, night life, shopping and fine dining. Strip’s cityscape and skyline is spectacular with a multitude of things. The Hotel and Resorts/Casino located on the strip have their own themes and uniqueness. Day-time has a whole lot of different perspective whereas the flashing neon lights at night are dazzling and energizes too! Make sure you have comfy shoes on since you’re going to be walking around a lot.
If you are not comfortable walking there are different ways of transportation :
- Rental cabs, limo Service, Taxi service, Deuce and Monorails.
Free trams available in certain parts of the Strip:
- Mandalay Bay Tram connecting the Mandalay Bay, Luxor, and Excalibur.
- Aria Express connecting the Monte Carlo, Crystals (also stop for Aria), and Bellagio.
- Another Trams run between Treasure Island and The Mirage.
We used our car to get to Las Vegas board sign and some resorts. So Let’s get started. This Blog is about what Las Vegas is from my point of view and we enjoyed.
We actually started walking to Caesars Palace which is right next to Mirage. Caesars Palace glitz with a Greco-Roman theme with great sculptures. Definitely had a good time shopping at “The Forum shops at Caesars” but missed “Fall of Atlantis”(Free show) which is good for kids. Checkout the Trevi fountain which is just outside the Forum shops at Caesars. Great place to take photos.
Next we moved to Bellagio which is elegant and classy. Big Christmas tree placed in Bellagio was a great place to take photos. “Fiori di Como” the glass sculpture that hangs from the ceiling in Bellagio’s lobby. The sculpture consists of 2,000 hand-blown glass blossoms that weigh about 40,000 pounds. They are supported by a 10,000-pound steel armature.
Bellagio Fountains is one of best choreographed with music & lights which is great at mornings whereas dumbstruck at nights.
Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas:
Next stop was at Cosmopolitan, Upon arrival the entry way is breath taking, there are so many LED screens and Chandelier is spanning 3 floors with a posh vibe.
We then wandered through shopping malls “The Shops at Crystals” and “Miracle Mile Shops ” a great place for shopping.
New York-New York(NY-NY) Hotel & Casino:
Next stop was to New York New York(NY NY) which by the name suggest its New York themed. The outside “skyline” from statue of Liberty to all the way to the inside “New York Street” setups are fantastic. The roller coaster is definitely worth a try. Chocolate lovers must definitely try Hershey store.
Excalibur Hotel and Casino:
Excalibur is fantastic medieval themed hotel with castles. A free tram connects Excalibur to Luxor and Mandalay Bay.
Luxor Las Vegas:
The Luxor hotel, named after the city in Egypt, is not made of limestone or granite, rather it is composed of black glass. Luxor is Egyptian themed hotel. The Luxor Sky Beam is the strongest beam of light, using computer-designed, curved mirrors to collect the light from 39 xenon lamps and focus them into one intense, narrow beam.
Mandalay Bay & Delano Resort & Casino:
Mandalay Bay is located at the end of the strip. The gold coloring of the hotel is a result of gold leaf used on the windows. Tropical themed hotel. The pool, wave pool, lazy river , beach and restaurants are outstanding. Shark Reef Aquarium contains numerous other exhibits, including two tunnel-shaped, walk-through aquarium.
Delano Las Vegas is the resort’s second tower formerly known as THEhotel at Mandalay Bay.
MGM Grand Las Vegas:
The MGM grand theme is more of the Art Deco era of classic Hollywood, and the hotel started billing itself as “The City of Entertainment”. Lobby was under construction when we visited. A statue of Leo, the MGM lion is a great place to take pictures. MGM grand has a Monorail station.
Paris Las Vegas:
The theme of this resort is the city of Paris, France. Replica of Eiffel tower is 460 feet tall with 360-degree observation deck. We had amazing views from the top and waited for the Bellagio fountain show and got an amazing perspective from the observation deck. Try to catch Eiffel tower experience at sunset and wait for the lights to come on.
Eiffel tower restaurant which is located in 11th floor has also amazing view and offers a romantic dinner experience.
Flamingo Las Vegas:
The oldest resort on the Strip. It feels both classy and classic. Check out the wildlife reserve which is beautiful. Theme is reminiscent of the Art Deco and Streamline Modern style of Miami and South Beach, with a garden courtyard housing a wildlife habitat featuring flamingos. Flamingo has a Las Vegas Monorail station.
The Linq is at a good location with easy access to lots of shops and good eats. One of its signature attractions would be “High Roller – Ferris wheel”. High Roller is a 550-foot tall, 520-foot (158.5 m) diameter giant Ferris wheel on the Las Vegas Strip.
The Venetian Las Vegas:
The hotel uses Venice, Italy, as its design inspiration and features architectural replicas of various Venetian landmarks. I absolutely loved this hotel and casino. The environment throughout the casino is lively and feels almost regal. Grand Canal Shoppes is a great place to shop at The Venetian, check out the “Welcome to Las Vegas Gift shop” located on the first floor to get selling cards, gifts & keepsakes along the casino. Wax Museum is also located at Grand Canal Shoppes, we didn’t try it(no time). If you are looking for nice romantic evening, Gondola rides are also worth visiting.
Stratosphere Las Vegas:
Stratosphere Las Vegas is located on Las Vegas Boulevard just north end of the Las Vegas Strip. Stratosphere’s signature attraction is the Stratosphere Tower. The Stratosphere Tower is 1,149 ft. tallest freestanding observation tower. Rides provided by them are freaking awesome.
Circus Circus Las Vegas:
Circus Circus Las Vegas is circus themed with Circus acts and carnival type games. Actually we didn’t explore much of this hotel.
Treasure Island Hotel and Casino:
Treasure Island(TI) states Caribbean themed hotel and Casino but not anymore. Pirate theme isn’t as prominent inside the resort whereas, a boardwalk built from wooden planks and a couple of ships that look like they’ve sailed the high seas. A pedestrian bridge from TI will take you directly to the Fashion Show mall. A free tram runs between The Mirage and the Treasure Island. “Mystère,” is the longest running Cirque du Soleil show in Vegas is located in TI.
Finally about the hotel we stayed, hotel rooms were pretty neat and comfortable to us. View from our room was great. Checkout The Mirage Volcano free show which is only staged after dark with real fire. If your Dolphin lovers then checkout the “Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat” which is a lovely place to get close & personal with the Beautiful Dolphins & also see the big cats.
Apart from gambling, shopping, dining, rides etc. There are still some entertainment to us through various shows. Las Vegas shows are the best! You can find various shows by Cirque du Soleil, Blue Man Group, shows for kids and adults, comedies, and even Broadway musicals.
There are currently seven Las Vegas shows by Cirque du Soleil.
- “O” playing at Bellagio Hotel is a water-themed production, featuring synchronized swimming and acrobatics taking place in and around an enormous tank of water.
